The family’s journey in China began with a visit to the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. Here, they participated in a Tai Chi class, a serene experience that allowed them to connect deeply with Chinese culture. The peaceful surroundings of the Temple, combined with the calming practice of Tai Chi, provided a perfect balance to their adventurous itinerary.
Exploring the Wonders of Beijing
Following the Tai Chi class, the family explored more of Beijing’s historical treasures, including Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. These iconic landmarks offered them a window into China’s imperial past. The architecture and the stories shared by their knowledgeable guide made this part of the trip particularly enlightening.
Mesmerized by an Acrobat Show
One of the cultural highlights of the trip was attending a traditional acrobat show. The family was amazed by the performers’ strength, grace, and skill. “These ladies are holding themselves with their mouths, contorting their bodies, and spinning cloths. It was amazing!” they shared. Another standout moment was seeing a performer transition from a laying position to standing without using her arms, all while balancing other performers on her head. This display of strength and precision left the family utterly mesmerized.

ZhangJiaJie was a favorite surprise!” The area’s beautiful hikes and stunning scenery made ZhangJiaJie one of the highlights of their trip.
The family also spent time in ZhangJiaJie National Forest, where their guide rearranged the schedule so they could return the next day to enjoy clearer views after the first day was foggy. “You can see the difference in the picture of the same structure,” they noted, appreciating the personalized care they received. This flexibility allowed them to fully appreciate the breathtaking scenery.

Thrills at the Great Wall and Relaxation
The adventure continued with a thrilling ride down the Great Wall by toboggan, an experience that left the family exhilarated. “Loved coming down the Great Wall by toboggan,” they shared, capturing the fun and excitement of the day. After the excitement, they enjoyed a relaxing moment with a traditional Chinese massage arranged by their guide. “We asked about massages after a long day of walking on the Wall. The guide recommended 4 masseuses to come to our room. They were so fantastic!” The massage, which was neither as gentle as Swedish nor as intense as Thai, was the perfect way to unwind.
A Cultural and Culinary Journey
Their exploration of China included a pedicab ride in HuTong village, where they experienced local culture firsthand, including a painting demonstration at a local person’s house.
The family’s culinary journey in China wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to a traditional tea house. After a delightful tea tasting at Caspar King Tea House, they joked, “We literally ‘bought all the tea in China!'” This light-hearted moment added to their many memorable experiences during their trip.
A Magical Experience in Hong Kong Disneyland
To cap off their incredible journey, the family visited Hong Kong Disneyland. Despite the rain, they had a fantastic time exploring the different attractions. They noticed some unique differences compared to other Disney parks: “Shanghai has a Zootopia land, and the Pirates ride was better. Hong Kong had Frozen Land, and their version of Big Thunder was very good. Instead of Haunted Mansion, they had Mystic Manor. It was pretty cool.” These magical moments at Disneyland were the perfect way to conclude their unforgettable adventure.
